Virgo Season 2025: Balancing Self-Improvement with Self-Love
In recent years, the middle of Summer has been a tough time for me. They don’t have to be, but because I’m trying to be “productive”--get stuff done to pay the bills–I end up judging myself for not being able to get the same amount of work done as I’m used to. Now, this wasn’t really ever a problem for me growing up because most Summers meant that I was on vacation. I would go down to my mother’s hometown in Mexico, or go to festivals, family parties, or go to the beach various times, since I live close to the Pacific Ocean.
When I worked in corporate America, I could get stuff done because my work was monotonous. But why, as of the recent past years, have I been having such a tough time with work during July and August? Well, because that’s when the Sun transits through the sign of Leo, and for me, that means it’s moving through the twelfth house, the arena of life that has to do with connecting consciousness. The Sun moved into Virgo on Saturday, September 23, 2025, and we’re going to talk about the Virgin’s season, but let me set the stage for what you’re going to want to watch out for the next four weeks.
One of the ways I like to teach the meaning behind houses is to look at the house opposite the one in question. The house opposite the twelfth is the sixth. Known as the house of service, this arena of life has to do with health, daily routines, and work, just to say the least. In a nutshell, the sixth house is about DOING. If you really want to get important stuff done, look to what sign or signs occupy this area of the chart, and plan ahead so you can clear your schedule and put the pedal to the metal. For example, in my chart, which you can get for free at Astro Charts, most of the sixth house is occupied by Aquarius; therefore, the middle of Winter is a prime time for me to go hard in the paint in the arena of productivity. This isn’t to say that you can’t get work done in the other astrological seasons of the year; it's just that navigating through a sixth house period is like running on high octane fuel when it comes to getting things done.
If the sixth house is about DOING, then the twelfth house is about BEING. When the Sun transits through your twelfth, the universe is setting up the environment for you to remember who you really are: consciousness having a human experience. The reason why I have been struggling the past few years, during the middle of Summer, is because I’ve been trying to force myself to be productive. As an entrepreneur, I want to pump out content so that people know what I do and how I can help them, but currently, I’m not in a position to be able to take off a whole month and just relax. Although the sixth and twelfth are opposite houses, they do have something in common–-health. Now, having evidence from the past four years, I know taking Leo season off, or just taking the foot off the gas, is the best thing I can do for my well-being.
To top things off, Mercury was retrograde for most of Leo season. Which meant it was also happening in my twelfth house, and as a Virgo ascendant, I felt this intensely. In layman's terms, I’m more sensitive to Mercury’s movement than most everybody. “Cry me a river, Andre, these are first-world problems. You have a home, clean water to drink, food to eat, and are healthy. Why are you complaining? You’re upset over not being able to generate a post on social media? This guy is crying because he hasn’t made it yet. What a loser. Get a grip, dude. Get another job if you’re complaining so much. Look at what your friends are doing. They have homes, brand new cars, and are traveling the world, while you’re over here, following your dreams.’ You really think you’re gonna make it? Yes! But you can’t even cultivate consistency in your business. I know, this is the karma I have to deal with. My south node is in the twelfth, so escaping reality is easy for me, and because my north node is in the sixth, being consistent in my workflow is going to be one of the most difficult things I’m here to learn. Excuses! I love what I do, but I haven’t ‘made it.’ I just want to pay the bills by helping people using astrology. Why is it so hard? Fuck it! I’m just gonna not do anything.” That was a tiny glimpse into how my inner dialogue was during Leo season. I was lethargic, unmotivated, and melancholic.
What helped me get through this period was returning to things that brought me joy (a Mercury retrograde in Leo strategy). I rewatched the Harry Potter movies, Marvel movies, and re-read one of my favorite books, The Untethered Soul. Thank God for Michael A. Singer’s spiritual classic, because it reminded me of who I am. I’m not my thoughts, nor my emotions. I am awareness observing the thoughts I’m thinking and the feelings I’m feeling. I’ve read this book before, but I haven’t mastered its teachings, so coming back to Singer’s book was a breath of fresh air. Also, even though I’m an evolutionary astrologer, it doesn’t mean I can override the feelings or “negative” experiences that a human goes through. What being an astrologer does do is help me understand that what I’m going through will pass, and also what the lessons of a particular period are.
Once I let go of the resistance to be productive, I was able to relax and go with the flow. When the Sun is navigating through this area of your chart, the best thing you can do is to log hours connecting with consciousness. That means meditating, channeling, creating art, flow-state activities, and enjoying time in serenity. Because if you don’t make time for being still and connect with your essence, then through the laws of synchronicity, your ego is going to get checked.
The twelfth house gets a lot of bad rap, and there is some truth to its public relations; however, it’s when one becomes so attached to things, feelings, experiences, or people that they experience “bad luck.” The successful voyage through the twelfth is connecting with the part of you that is eternal, and in turn, you cultivate peace and freedom from the things that drive most people crazy–public image, having life figured out, having the biggest house on the block, etc. Furthermore, you realize that it’s up to you to decide how you perceive “reality.” Lastly, the ultimate twelfth house gift you can experience is experiencing the connection to God, the Universe, the Divine, your Higher Self, a Higher Power, etc. In a word, it’s wholeness.
Now, on the other hand, an unsuccessful navigation through the house of consciousness looks like you thinking you have bad luck because negativity follows you. In reality, what’s happening is that because you’re so attached to worldly things, the universe is trying to course correct you by triggering your ego through losses. This could look like having your brand new Mercedes-Benz crashed into, people not wanting to hang out with you because you bring the drama, or feeling empty inside after accomplishing goals that were driven by outside influences. I’m also not saying that when the Sun moves through the twelfth, you’re automatically going to have an unpleasant time. The perception of your twelfth house time depends on how strong your attachments are. This is why the best advice is to go with the flow, breathe, feel, and release. If you’re looking for a good twelfth-house companion, then get yourself The Untethered Soul.
Your chart is a circle divided into twelve sections, and planets move counterclockwise through each house. Having a productive transit through the house of consciousness is so important because you’ll come best equipped to navigate another 12-month cycle. Because once the Sun leaves the twelfth house, it enters the first. Known as the house of personality, this arena is all about what you want to do, which is kind of hilarious to think because you're transitioning from a non-egoic time to an all-about-you time. It’s as if the universe wants to have your ego in check so that you don’t get so full of yourself and continue doing things that are not conducive to your higher self.
Even though I shared the inner turbulence I was experiencing, it took me longer to share with you guys. Because it’s embarrassing, but it’s the truth. If I’m going to be an evolutionary astrologer who prides himself on honesty and integrity, I have to reveal my insecurities to you. Otherwise, if I were in your shoes, I wouldn’t want to work with me. I respect those who are brave enough to show how they truly feel because I can trust them. No one is perfect, and those who portray that kind of life are not for me.
I was extremely hard on myself last month, and it can be one of the shadows of having a Virgo Ascendant. Speaking of being self-critical, the Sun is now in Virgo. From August 22nd through September 22nd, 2025, we’re being invited to improve ourselves. Whether that’s being better at work, a hobby, or cultivating healthier habits, for the next few weeks, we can be just a little bit better. However, something important you want to remember is not to judge yourself by the standard of perfection, but rather by the intensity of your effort.
Virgo’s evolutionary goal is all about personal growth. The energy in the air right now is inviting us to reflect on where we want to go and where we’re currently at. Take an honest self-assessment of your circumstances so you know what you need to do to get to your next level. It doesn’t matter how big or small your intentions are. You can get real about what steps you need to take to get your doctorate or what you can do to be a better lover, parent, child, etc. All that matters is that you’re putting effort into being a better version of yourself, no matter how tiny that step may look.
Wherever you are in life, what you must always remember–especially during Virgo season–is to love yourself. Virgo’s energy is known for its honest discernment, analytical mind, and attention to detail. These are great resources to harness; however, when you judge yourself against the standard of perfection, and you fall short, which one always does, you can talk to yourself harshly. You can then feel guilty, shameful, and insecure, which can lead to wasting time, giving up, or becoming such a workaholic that your health takes a toll, and so do your personal relationships. Moreover, if you’re being super critical of yourself, then that will eventually bleed out, and you start becoming judgmental of others.
I almost forgot to mention one thing: it’s eclipse season! As a collective, we’ve been experiencing the shadows of Virgo because the south node entered the sign back in January of this year and will stay in the sign of the Virgin until July of 2026. We’ve been invited to release harsh self-criticism, shame, and insecurity (Virgo’s low frequencies) and embrace going with the flow and the magic of life (Pisces’ high frequencies).
What a lunar eclipse looks like.
These themes are going to be put in the spotlight because on September 7, we’re having a total lunar eclipse in Pisces, and on September 21, we’re having a partial solar eclipse in Virgo. For some, this could be a major turning point; for others, it’s just another full moon and new moon, respectively. No matter the case, take advantage of this energy by letting go of the need to have everything figured out.
What a solar eclipse looks like.
Because the nodes are opposite one another, there’s no telling which side of the seesaw you’re going to experience. Since we practice evolutionary astrology here, you know that it’s up to you to decide which path you want to take.
If you fall prey to the south node in Virgo’s lower frequencies, then you can feel unworthy, can be overly critical of oneself and others, and give up altogether. However, if you’re willing to be proactive, then with the north node being in Pisces, the best thing you can do is to surrender. Get out of your own way. Honor your inner child and go play. Allow meditation to come naturally. Go sit on a bench. Go watch a sunset. Go on a walk. There’s nothing you have to do other than to create the space to be still and enjoy serenity. Who knows, you might receive Divine downloads. Even if you don’t, the point is to realize that no matter what you do, God’s love is absolute.
Take it from a Virgo rising, be kind to yourself.
